On September 16, 2025, the Technical Secretariat for Food and Nutrition Security (SETSAN) and the Nutrition Partners Forum (NPF) held a strategic dialogue and co-creation meeting at Hotel Avenida, Maputo. The main objective was to strengthen coordination and alignment between the Government of Mozambique and development partners to ensure effective implementation of food and nutrition security interventions across the country.

Why was this meeting important?
Nutrition remains a national priority for sustainable development and human capital growth in Mozambique. Despite progress—such as reducing chronic malnutrition from 43% in 2013 to 37% in 2022—there is still a long way to go to achieve the ambitious target of less than 30% by 2030. This meeting came at a critical moment, with new leadership at SETSAN and the need to align strategies for the next two years.
What happened during the meeting?
The dialogue was structured into interactive sessions that included:
- Presentation of SETSAN’s vision and priorities for the coming years.
- Discussion on the regional roll-out of the National Food and Nutrition Security Strategy (PESAN 2024–2030).
- A deep dive into Food and Nutrition Security Policies and Planning, focusing on co-creating an implementation plan.
- Group work and plenary discussions to identify synergies and address gaps.
Expected outcomes
The meeting aimed to:
- Align priorities between SETSAN and partners.
- Co-create a joint action plan for the next two years.
- Identify available technical and financial resources and gaps that need to be addressed.
Who participated?
The event brought together around 30 participants, including:
Development partners who are part of the NPF.
SETSAN leadership and key staff.
Representatives from the Ministry of Health’s Nutrition Department.
